Design and build of the autobiography of Mehli Mehta Music Foundation founder Zubin Mehta
The Mehli Mehta Music Foundation (MMMF) is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes western classical music through concerts and musical workshops for underprivileged communities across India. It was founded by conductor Zubin Mehta in honour of his father Mehli Mehta, a prolific conductor and violinist himself who founded the Bombay String Quartet and the Bombay Symphony Orchestra. We were briefed by the MMMF to design and produce an emotive autobiography detailing the genesis of the foundation and each man’s pivotal role in promoting the values of classical music in India.
Bringing together historical documents and testimonials from friends and collaborators as well as a huge back-catalogue of images, we designed the book to represent a fluid journey through both men’s lives and work. The project was a joint effort between Photolink designers in Manchester and Mumbai. Page layouts, typographical look and feel, as well as the running order of images and copy were handled in the UK. The book was then built by Photolink India who saw that it was printed and published to virtuoso standards.
